On June 29th, 2025, amid high temperatures and strong winds of up to 117 km/h, a series of wildfires broke out across the country, mostly in the province of Izmir where over 50,000 people from 41 settlements were evacuated. Operations at Izmir Adnan Menderez Airport were temporarily suspended. Helicopters, fire-extinguishing aircraft and other vehicles, and more than 1,000 people have been trying to extinguish the fires. Three people were killed by wildfires near Ödemiş: an 81-year-old bedridden man and two people who were working with firefighters to tackle the fire. However, reports are now coming in that the fires, which have been raging for two days, are slowly being brought under control.
