Turkey’s annual inflation rate steadies at 19.50% in April 2019

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK - TurkStat) announced an increase in the consumer inflation rate for April 2019 compared with the previous month as 1.69%, resulting in a small increase in the annual-to-date rate to 19.50% from the previous month’s rate of 19.67%. This was below market expectations.

 

The highest monthly increase was recorded in alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 6.77%, followed by clothing and footwear with 5.36%, household goods with 2.85%, miscellaneous goods and services with 1.94% and food and non-alcoholic beverages with 2.44%.

 

The only monthly decrease was recorded in communication with 0.30%.

 

The highest annual increase was recorded in food and non-alcoholic beverages with 31.86%, followed by household goods with 27.64%, miscellaneous goods and services with 27.47%, health with 19.75%, and restaurants and hotels with 19.58%.
